The Sommeliers Black Tie decanter is hand-blown "freehand", which means without the use of any forms. A strip of black crystal (coloured with manganese oxide) is incorporated during the glass melting process. The length of the hollow part is determined by the length of the arm of the glassblower who blows the decanter. Only an extremely talented glassmaker is able to shape such a decanter. Each piece is slightly different - each is so original. Classic, curved and excellent for perfect enjoyment of wine, the Riedel Black Tie decanter makes decanting a real experience - from pouring the wine to pouring it into the glass.

"Personally, I prefer decanting for both young and more mature wines. In the case of mature wines, decanting is an expression of respect; in the case of young wines, it is an expression of trust. Decanting mature wines shortly before serving ensures that the colour and clarity are not impaired by sediments that have formed in the wine during storage. Decanting young wines a few hours before serving will give the wine the opportunity to develop its bouquet, to acquire a degree of maturity that it would otherwise only achieve with years of storage."
