Product detailed description
The Horn decanter was created as a tribute to the Central European heritage of the Riedel family in Austria and Bohemia. In fact, it was inspired by the iconic emblem that symbolizes the Austrian Post Office. In the 18th and 19th centuries, postal services in Europe used horse-drawn carriages to deliver mail between towns, announcing their arrival to the general public by playing the post horn. Influential musicians from this period, like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an Austrian composer born in 1756, the year of the company's founding Riedel, also incorporated the horn into their music. Even today you can play this instrument, not only the original postal one, but also this unique glass one - by blowing into the smaller hole of the Horn decanter.
Christian Moueix's reflection essay on decantation:
"Personally, I prefer decanting for both young and more mature wines. In the case of mature wines, decanting is an expression of respect; in the case of young wines, it is an expression of trust. Decanting mature wines shortly before serving ensures that the colour and clarity are not impaired by sediments that have formed in the wine during storage. Decanting young wines a few hours before serving will give the wine the opportunity to develop its bouquet, to acquire a degree of maturity that it would otherwise only achieve with years of storage."
