The tastings demonstrated the incredible ageing potential of Bordeaux wines.

Also, wines bottled a century or more ago and perfectly stored are even today showing their best condition. Late ripening varieties with small, thick-skinned fruit produce extremely full-bodied wines in good vintages with massive tannins that require long bottle storage to reach true ripeness. Mature wines are characterised by having a better taste than smell.

The notes of the bouquet are reminiscent of mushrooms and forest floor. Some scents can be very penetrating. Too large a glass would bring out the aroma unnecessarily.

For this reason, we recommend a medium volume glass to please your palate. It concentrates the ripe fruit flavours, adds bite by accentuating the acidity and the remaining tannins come through vividly.

Claus Riedel introduced the first series of glasses for connoisseurs in 1973 in Orvieto in collaboration with the Italian Sommeliers Association A.I.S. (Associazione Italiana Sommeliers). The series includes 10 different sizes.

Thanks to worldwide demand, the Sommeliers series is now the absolute top wine glass series and the most successful hand-blown wine glass series in the world. Each glass is made separately: the top is blown in a mould, the stem and base are shaped by hand according to production methods developed in the early 1900s.
