White wine glass SOMMELIERS RHEINGAU 230 ml, Riedel
Code: RD440001Product detailed description
By virtue of their character, white wines from the northern wine regions (Mosel, Rhineland, Franconia, Weinviertel) do exceptionally well in this glass shape.
"Young" (light - dry) wines with higher acidity and delicate fruit flavours can develop perfectly thanks to this highly aesthetic shape with the "acidity spoiler" (the rim of the glass). The shape of the Rheingau Sommeliers glass makes us lift the tip of the tongue thanks to a subconscious reflex, so that the wine, guided in a gentle beam, comes into contact with it first.
The taste buds, which respond to sweetness, are concentrated in this area, which greatly enhances the fruitiness of the wine. Besides, the tip is tongue and temperature sensitive and very receptive when tasting.
The perception of the taste of the wine is thus greatly influenced by the functionality of the glass. The young white wines are served chilled and have a very fine carbon dioxide residue from the fermentation process, which you can feel on the tip of your tongue as a gentle pearl.
The pronounced acidity is presented as a taste experience and is therefore perceived as typical and pleasant. The edge of the tongue, which senses the acidity, does not come into contact with the wine due to the slender flow from this shape. The wine flows briskly to the root of the tongue, where pleasant notes of bitter almonds in the impact and aftertaste of the wine balance and prolong the enjoyment.
We recommend the Rheingau Sommeliers Riedel glass for:
- Grüner Veltliner, Orvieto Classico
- Pinot (blanc, Grigio, Gris), Riesling (cabinet)
- Veltliner red, Pinot Noir
- Scheurebe, Sylvaner
- Vernaccia, Welsh Riesling
SOMMELIERS series:
Claus Riedel introduced the first series of glasses for connoisseurs in 1973 in Orvieto in collaboration with the Italian Sommeliers Association A.I.S. (Associazione Italiana Sommeliers). The series includes 10 different sizes.
From this moment on, the world of wine has changed fundamentally.
In different regions and on different continents, wines are produced today that did not exist or were completely unknown at the time. Therefore, the development of the Sommeliers series was continued by his son George Riedel until the Sommeliers became an extensive "vitrum-vinoteque" at the highest level of technical development.
In 1991 Robert Parker, editor of Wine Advocate magazine wrote: "The best glasses, both from a technical point of view and from the point of view of maximum enjoyment, are those made by Riedel. The effect that these glasses give to fine wine is truly extraordinary. I can't express enough how much of a difference it makes."
Thanks to worldwide demand, the Sommeliers series is now the absolute top wine glass series and the most successful hand-blown wine glass series in the world. Each glass is made separately: the top is blown in a mould, the stem and base are shaped by hand according to production methods developed in the early 1900s.
The glassmakers use their talents, their skills and care for details are essential to give the Sommeliers series the craftsmanship customers expect. Sommeliers are made of glass with more than 24% lead content.
